Feb 2, 2025 · The other el84 amp I have which is the 70s Traynor YGM is probably the best EL84 amp I’ve played that has been modified with different coupling caps and presence cap and it only sounds nasally at much lower volumes. even when I listen to video clips of other El84 amps I always hear a little bit of sharp nasal tone. it might just be my ears ...
good EL84 tubes - Telecaster Guitar Forum
Dec 26, 2024 · IMO, there is no more robust el84 than the Soviet 6P14P-EV tube. Built for military use. To get the -EV designation, they apparently went through extra hard testing. Spec'ed for >5,000 hours use. I have a pair that is easily +3000 hours and they still test strong. I bought mine from a couple Ukrainian vendors on eBay. I'm sure they could use ...
EL84 vs EL84M? - Telecaster Guitar Forum
Jan 15, 2009 · The EL84 is desired for breaking up, if you want clean headroom, don't use an EL84. Funny thing is, the EL84 is not a "good" valve, it was designed as a cheap jobbie for domestic radios. It has enough gain to delete an ECC83 in the pre.

Aug 10, 2023 · A Classic 30 is a FIXED bias amp - not like most EL84 amps, but you might do some reading. And even "self biasing" amps should be checked - there IS a bias setting, it's just not as commonly adjusted as with a fixed bias amp.

Oct 13, 2007 · Favorite EL84(s) '50s Amperex (or Miniwatt) [Heerlen-made Philips] with square-getter wire are my all-time favorite, but they're difficult to get matched. EL84 and 12ax7 tube suggestions laney - Telecaster Guitar Forum
Jun 30, 2015 · Russian-made 6P14P-EV (EL84 drop in sub). VERY rugged military tubes that can handle 400v on the plates, and are rated for 5,000 hours. Fairly long break-in period, but get significantly better, as the hours pile on. You can get them fairly cheap from most East European vendors on flea-bay.

Matching power tubes - Telecaster Guitar Forum
Apr 5, 2022 · More than a few "newer" EL84 amps are properly fixed, with no bias pot to adjust it.
