Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is a measure used by healthcare providers to assess how well the kidneys are functioning in filtering waste and excess substances from the blood. The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the rate at which the kidneys filter the blood through the glomeruli, which are tiny blood vessels in the kidneys. The eGFR is calculated based on factors such as age, sex, race, and the levels of creatinine in the blood. It is expressed in milliliters per minute per 1. 73 square meters of body surface area (mL/min/1. 73m²). GFR values are used to estimate kidney function and help healthcare providers diagnose and monitor kidney diseases, as well as determine appropriate treatment plans for patients with kidney-related conditions. A lower eGFR value indicates reduced kidney function, while a higher value indicates better kidney function.

We describe a novel approach by which EGFR is involved in endotoxemia by regulating the M1/M2 phenotype transformation of macrophages through cell metabolism. In conclusion, we demonstrated for the first time that cell surface expression of EGFR is enhanced in the macrophage in response to LPS.
