The BMW M52 is a straight-6 DOHC petrol engine which was produced from 1994 to 2000. It was released in the E36 320i, [1] to replace the M50. The BMW S52 engine is a high performance variant of the M52 which powered the American and Canadian market E36 M3 from 1996 to 1999.

The BMW 3 Series (E46) is the fourth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars manufactured by German automaker BMW. Produced from 1997 to 2006, it was the successor to the E36 3 Series , which ceased production in 2000.

You will go from 168 hp to 190 hp and 245 NM to 280NM in torque. agreed, with your heavier convertible you want a bigger engine than your 2.5L. so go with an M54 3.0L from 330 or the same type M52TU 2.8L out of the 328.

Sep 5, 2006 · I have a 2000 323i with the M52 engine. Most of the E46s are running the newer m54 engines. The question is, does the e46 engine info/forum (FI etc.) and parts really apply to my engine or should I be using the E36 info and parts etc.?

The inline six-cylinder 2.8-liter engine is the biggest engine of the M52-series. The M52B28 was released in 1995 as a new engine for the E36 328i, E39 528i, and E38 728i models. The M52 engine series replaced the M50-series.
