Apr 9, 2009 · Here's how the system works: A planetary differential (the transfer case) just aft of the trans-mission splits torque 62 percent to the rear, 38 to the front. This torque split roughly equates to the weight bias of a non xi 3 after the weight shifts rearward under hard acceleration. It also preserves the rear-biased neutral handling we all love.

Dec 19, 2018 · The idea is to retrofit the AWD E46 with the more advanced xDrive transfer case (replace the NV 124 with the ATC 300). I don't know if it would need a different length driveshaft (I haven't measured both t-cases to know the difference.)

Nov 26, 2011 · xdrive basically is a computer controlled center diff allowing 0%-100% torque split front and back. the xi on E46 is not xdrive because it uses an open diff 35/65 front and back split.
