The International 420 Dinghy is a sailing dinghy popular for racing and teaching. The hull is fiberglass with internal buoyancy tanks. The 420 has a bermuda rig, spinnaker and trapeze. It has a large sail-area-to-weight ratio, and is designed to plane easily. The 420 is an International class recognised by World Sailing.

The 420E from Zim Sailing sets a new standard in enclosed deck technology for high school and college sailing. The airtight foredeck has taken weight out of the bow, increasing performance and safety, without sacrificing the durability Zim Sailing's boats are known for.

The equation incorporates SA/Disp (100% fore triangle) and Disp/length ratios to create a guide to probable boat performance vs. other boats of comparable size. For boats of the same length, generally the higher the S#, the lower the PHRF.

The E420 is a scholastic version of the C420 (Club 420), which is a boat many NTS sailors sail in the non-scholastic season when club sailing. The E420 omits the spinnaker and trapeze hardware on the C420 and ads a positively-buoyant sealed bow.

Designed for sailors learning to race or those transitioning from optis, prams, lasers, others to E420 boats. Prior experience in summer Learn to Sail and Learn to Race camps is recommended, but not required! Cost: $289. It is an ocean cruiser model and this particular boat has been featured in magazines - can't remember which. Sleeps 6.
