His basis is the London Brighton and South Coast Railway (LB&SC) “E2” 0-6-0. Unfortunately, none of the real E2s survived into preservation, all of them were scrapped.

In my headcanon, he was a regular E2 who got rebuilt in 1920. I've posted mine before but: The LB&SCR realized quickly that the E2s were pretty terrible locomotives.

May 8, 2019 · In 1914 the LB&SCR tried using two of the E2s (first batch) on six coach push-pull trains between London Bridge and Crystal Palace. Apparently they were not a success, but I can't find out what the specific issues were.
