"Duck Face"-ing is when someone does an overexaggerated pout, usually for a photo taken by themselves. I have no idea why it became popular to do so, but I remember these being around way back when MySpace was becoming a thing.

Oct 3, 2013 · Smiling makes your cheeks fatter, makes your skin wrinkle around your mouth/chin (sometimes giving the illusion of a double-chin) and shows your teeth/gums. It's way harder to take a flattering "smiling" picture than it is a flattering, if goofy, duckface picture.

It's been around for a long time. Since I was in high school at least, and that's been 7 years. When they do the duck face they are trying to do a kissy face while simultaneously trying to do a pouty face.
