I have a bottle of Dreft that I got cheap from some baby coupon book, and I've been using it for my first round of washing all the baby things after unpacking from the store. I actually really like the smell, and the label says it's fine for sensitive skin, but I hear so many people here complain about it and say it's bad and full of chemicals.

I would use a generic free and clear type detergent. Dreft actually has quite a bit of fragrance and other chemical junk in it. Our pedi specifically recommends against using it for that reason.

Jan 7, 2012 · No. In fast I find it is worse than just using any brand free and clear detergent. Dreft has fragrance in it which personally I don't care for and would irritate my skin since I don't do separate loads of laundry for the baby clothes and our clothes.

Jul 3, 2010 · I'm going to use any of the free and clear products. DH has skin allergies so we have it in the house already. We generally get the Kirkland brand at Costco and it's so much cheaper than Dreft.

Sep 14, 2022 · I loved the smell, and I loved that it was one of the only detergents that didn’t make my sensitive skin girls breakout. I also use seventh generation. But it just does not smell as good as dreft, IMO. Does anyone here have a negative experience with Dreft? Or anyone know what’s really up with it? Idk maybe stupid question lol

Here’s a list of Dreft ingredients, and some that I don’t consider gentle include fragrance, propylene glycol, ethanolamine, ethanol, sodium hydroxide, diethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol 4000 (which Skin Deep scores as 5-8, depending on usage), and about a dozen other ingredients.
