While at Canastota, New had a very successful career and was twice named the Outstanding Wrestler for the Red Raiders and was selected as the team's captain in his senior year campaign.

Feb 8, 2015 · Wrestling has been good to Don New. The sport took the lifelong Canastota resident to Cornell University, where he earned All-American honors in 1967 and met his wife, Debbie, of 47 years.

He won the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association 137-pound championship as a senior and went on to finish fifth at the NCAA championships to earn All-America honors. He was the recipient of the Peter J. Floros Memorial Award as the team's most valuable wrestler in 1967.
