Painting by Kunz. Don Kunz (1937 – 2001), is known for his work as a calligrapher, painter and teacher. Kunz served the Cooper Union for 33 years. He was devoted to the education of artists, most notably in the areas of painting and calligraphy; he is remembered for creating a dialogue between the two disciplines.

Don Kunz (1937 – 2001) was a prolific artist who painted medium and large scale works on canvas as well as smaller works on paper and canvas. A native of Portland, Oregon, Kunz studied calligraphy at Reed College with Lloyd Reynolds (1902–1978) was an art teacher at Grant High School in Portland.

Don is sought out as an “outstanding” and “fabulous” lawyer—who “gives very sound and considered advice” and is “very good” at “looking at the bigger picture” (Chambers USA). His reputation is built on a tenure of more than 38 years representing clients.

Don Kunz taught University of Rhode Island for 36 years. His essays, poems, and short stories have appeared in over eighty literary journals. Don has retired to Bend, Oregon, where he writes fiction and poetry, volunteers, studies Spanish, and plays the Native American Flute.

Donnie George Jacob “Don” Kunz, 82, of Basco, Illinois, passed away at 2:35 PM Friday, October 18, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Don was born December 28, 1941, the son of Martin and Irene (Beeler) Kunz in Quincy, Illinois. He attended Warsaw High School, graduating in 1960.

Don Kunz was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1941, married Sandra Steele in 1965, and their son, Erik, was born in 1969. Don earned the following degrees: BA (Kansas State University, 1964), MA (University of Texas, Austin, 1965), PhD (University of Washington, Seattle, 1968).
