Jan 27, 2010 · It's purely due to the emission equipment, namely the DPF. The engine itself is rock solid but Dodge/Cummins really f'ed up the assimilation of the emissions eqpt. With GM's Dmax you don't know it's there but with Dodge it seems about 1 in 3 have to remove it all (voiding the warranty) just to keep the truck out of the shop.

May 9, 2021 · My Ecodiesel used Shell Rotella T-6 5W-40 Full Syn, and I thought I'd go that route again. It is highly recommended and popular for the Cummins 6.7 L. On the Cummins.com site Valvoline's 5W-40 Premium Blue Extreme Full Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil gets the nod of approval. I saw it priced the other day for $22 a gallon, I think it was at Auto Zone.

Jul 2, 2016 · Valvoline premium blue is endorsed by Cummins. You can bet a farm out west there's $$$ involved. No engine mfg will tell you which brand to run out of liability concerns. Any 15-40 or 5-40 that meets spec will be fine. The motors come with synthetic because Cummins doesn't know where or at what temperature the motor will be put into service.
