May 29, 2020 · Because the hydra was so strong, many warriors attempt to kill it and fail, resulting in a hydra with more heads and battle experience. You can rule it either way really, -its tougher because it manages to survive encounters and grow more heads. Or -it is the strongest hydra and it kills all and grows new heads like trophies of each battle.

Maybe the hydra is being controlled by a spellcaster (mad wizard, cleric of sea god, or warlock) and hydra is the big bruiser in the fight while the spellcaster throws spells from the back.

Death, sure, but that isn't unique to the False Hydra. If these characters only exist for the single session, and have no relation to characters outside this session, then the unique consequence of dying to the False Hydra is lost. Do you plan for a more narrative-focused session, combat-focused, or more "balanced" between the 3 pillars?

The players could already figure out the types through hints and nudges throughout the dungeon crawl. Each head has a specific attack, too. As of right now, I would roll at the start of each of the Hydra's turn to see a) how many, and b) which head gets to attack.
