Jun 27, 2020 · Constructs are not objects, they are creatures. In 5e these are distinct, seperate things. Your DM made the right call. Unless the construct is specifically wearing a suit of armor on top of its body or is holding a metal weapon, no heat metal.

Animate objects states a condition for ending the animation and control of the constructs: Each target animates and becomes a creature under your control until the spell ends or until reduced to 0 hit points.
