Dire Bears are smaller than Polar Bears in 2E, but the other way around in 3E. In 3E, Dire Wolves are 9 feet long and 800 pounds. 9 feet > 8 feet, thus they are Large size category. According to 3.5 they were 9 feet long. A standard wolf is about 4.5 feet long long and 2.5 feet tall. So if a direwolf was built similarly they would be roughly 5 feet tall.
