Disaster Risk Reduction Network of Africa journalists (DIRAJ) brings together African journalists and communicators interested in sharing disaster risk reduction news, tools, and practices in order to foster a culture of prevention rather than reaction.

DIRAJ is an association of journalists and communicators working in the fields of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and humanitarian response in Africa and around the world. We organise regional and national workshops, seminars and networking events to connect aspiring and leading journalists and communicators.

With funding from the United Nations Agency on Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), DIRAJ is inviting journalists, news correspondents, freelance reporters, and multimedia content producers to submit story pitches to be eligible for grants of up to USD1,500.

Dec 7, 2021 · Over the past five decades, Malawi has experienced more than 19 major floods and seven droughts, and these events are increasing in frequency, magnitude and scope over the years. Flooding was particularly severe in 2015, killing over 250 people and displacing 230,000 others. Over 600,000 people were affected. And now the country has developed a 72 hour alert period - flood early warning system.
