Ashley Ingram, who eventually produced "Feel So High" and most of the album, said that "[Elias] played me a very rough demo of the song that later became 'Feel So High.'

Des'ree lived on the island from the age of ten until thirteen, and during that time, she was exposed to dub, calypso, and other indigenous musical genres of the Caribbean. She has said that she grew up singing, and loved Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight and the Pips as a child.
