Sep 2, 2019 · I have used a lot of shellac, mostly with off the shelf denatured alcohol, have also tried behkol, other than the price I didn't notice much difference. I agree what you want is a large percentage of ethanol so 190 proof grain would be best if you don't mind the expense. Personally I have not tried it but intend to at some point.

Isopropol alky doesn't work very well either. I get my alky at home depot, $ 13 per gallon.you can also use Heet in the Yellow bottle, found in auto parts stores.

Jun 16, 2014 · You can get away with mixing isopropyl of the 70 to 91% variety with denatured alcohol to "extend" what you have or reduce the cost of methanol. I've tried this previously with varying success. Don't burn hand sanitizer in anything but an open burner since the glycerin is the nasty leftover stuff that doesn't like to burn.

Jan 5, 2007 · As an experiment(and because I got it cheap.LOL) I tried a mixture of 50/50 ethanol and water. Works the same as denatured alcohol and water. I have left skins in for as long as 10 days with no ill effects. I post this incase someone can get the ethanol cheaper or the denatured alcohol is not readily available.

To release it, simply dampen a pad with alcohol, rub lightly, see if the ring disappears, and repeat as necessary. Dissolve it all. Doubled-up paper towels soaked in denatured alcohol will remove the old finish. Cover the soaked towels in plastic to prevent the alcohol from evaporating before the finish dissolves. Wipe it off.
