The goat on the frontispiece carries the sign of the pentagram on the forehead, with one point at the top, a symbol of light, his two hands forming the sign of occultism, the one pointing up to the white moon of Chesed, the other pointing down to the black one of Geburah. This sign expresses the perfect harmony of mercy with justice.

During the Inquisition of the Templars in the 14th century, the knights were falsely accused of worshipping this figure. The famous icon of Baphomet, i.e. as a goat-headed idol, however, only emerged much later on.

During the medieval period, Baphomet was often depicted as a demonic figure with a goat’s head, wings, and hooves. This image was popularized by the French occultist Eliphas Levi in the 19th century and has since become a common symbol in modern occultism.
