Daniel M'Naghten (sometimes spelt McNaughtan or McNaughton; 1813 – 3 May 1865) was a Scottish woodturner who assassinated English civil servant Edward Drummond while suffering from paranoid delusions.

On January 20, 1843, Daniel M’Naghten, a Scottish woodturner, murdered Edward Drummond, secretary to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. In the weeks prior to the incident, M’Naghten was seen and recognized loitering near the eventual site of the murder on Downing Street, a London street crowded with government offices and residences.
