The Great Way or Dadao Government, formally the Great Way Municipal Government of Shanghai, was a short-lived puppet government proclaimed in Pudong on December 5, 1937, to administer Japanese-occupied Shanghai in the early stages of the Second Sino-Japanese War.

Dao (pronunciation: [táʊ], English approximation: / daʊ / dow, Chinese: 刀; pinyin: dāo; jyutping: dou1) are single-edged Chinese swords, primarily used for slashing and chopping. They can be straight or curved.

Su was also known for his views on Buddhist-Daoist syncretism, which influenced the name of the new administration: the Great Way (“Dadao”) Municipal Government of Shanghai, and its flag (the yin-yang symbol of Daoism on a yellow background—the colors yellow, gold, and saffron are often associated with Buddhism).

Dadao Puppet Independent Flag Municipality (1937) This "independent" entity existed in Shanghai for a few years, being absorbed into the Nanjing pro-Japanese government in 1940. Its flag was a taiji ( yin-yang ) symbol on a yellow background.

Jul 31, 2020 · This is the flag of New Peoples Society in Beijing 北平新民会 in Dec 1937 which was yellow flag with green and red yin-yan design in the center which is very similar to the reported flag of Shanghai Great Way government supported by Japan.
