A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter [broken anchor] or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. [1][2] Wall-flow diesel particulate filters usually remove 85% or more of the soot, and under certain conditions can attain soot removal efficiencies approaching 100%.

There is a risk that Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) systems may trigger fires and explosions by compromising hydraulic lines and igniting combustible fluids. This could put workers in the vicinity at risk of injury.

Diesel exhaust stack gas temperature is typically measured between 300oC to 400oC. Where the exhaust contains a catalytic converter and DPF, the exhaust gas may be as hot as 600oC during a regeneration event.
