May 29, 2006 · So the 2RZ does have more power than the 22R-E (about 30+ HP) but the Torque difference of only 18+ ft-lbs really makes for a less noticeable improvement over the 22R-E, especially when comparing the 3RZ to the 22R-E, which has 38+ HP and 35+ TQ.

Feb 3, 2007 · The simplest, cheapest, most user-friendly, reliable engine is another 22R to replace it with, unless you have time, money, and you know what you're doing before you get part way into the project and find that it's too much for you.

Oct 4, 2007 · The DOHC motor achieves more HP but only at the high end of the RPM range which I suppose is great for racing, but in my opinion, not so good for use as a truck. As far as reliability is concerned, Both motors are rock dependable.

Mar 30, 2013 · I had an old truck with the famous 22R known for its reliability. I recently bought a 2003 Tacoma base truck with the 2.4 liter. I got about 31 mpg with the 22R with a manual tranny and get about the same in the Tacoma with an automatic tranny (70% hwy driving).

Jan 17, 2006 · When it comes to 22r, 22re and the 22rec the number 22 stands for the engine size, not directly though. NOt like hondas where B18 means 1.8L. 22 stands for there 2.4 liter in the R series motor. YOu probally have seen the 20R mtor thats a 2.2L.

Dec 25, 2011 · the smallest engine available is the 2.7 24valve DOHC with 160hp. no 22R available in the Tacos. the 22R is a good engine. all Toyota had to do was create the tooling for a DOHC cylinder head for the 22R. the 22R with a DOHC would run sweet.

With a 92mm bore and 89mm stroke, the 22R displaces 2.4-litres and, again, breathes through a SOHC head. Output of the single carb models is typically around 72kW but the EFI version, the 22R-E, makes an extra 6kW.
