In mid-1970s, Leyland developed a special version of the Fleetline, known as the B20, with Leyland O.690 engine, air cowls on both sides above the engine compartment and reduced noise levels. [6] All of these went to London Transport. The first prototype Fleetline was unveiled in December 1960. [7]

My first ever trip on a DMS was on this bus on the 156 from Clapham Junction to Morden, via Raynes Park which was my destination on that journey. 2357 is now preserved. The revised rear profile of the B20 type DMS, as seen on DMS2371 also at Morden station.

In a bid to provide a quieter, nicer bus to travel in, Leyland and LT produced a version powered by a turbo-charged engine in a quietened engine compartment: the B20. These were slightly longer, with cowls above the engine compartment for air exchange.
