Nov 24, 2004 · There were DC8s with APU. I believe 2 of our birds had them, but they were removed before we put them in service. The APU sat at the aft end of the #2 belly or just behind it.

Mar 24, 2000 · Even some 707s and DC-8s had APUs added after delivery located in the aft bulk caro hold. I recall an Alaska Airlines 727-100QC mfg around 1965 that had the APU (this was back in 1985 when AS was still using the -100 as a freighter) in the aft cargo hold on a sliding track, it was very odd and extremely noisy.

Oct 15, 2002 · The intake at the base of the vertical fin are for the heat exchangers for the air conditioning packs. The APU intake is actually on the belly, just forward of the airstairs (if installed).

Mar 30, 2001 · I could have sworn that the 727 was the first commerical airliner to have an APU as standard. Generally the Electra did not have an APU. I can think of one exception, RAA's N1944C. Most early aircraft did not have APU's, the DC-8, 707, CV-880, CV-990.
