Nov 8, 2020 · Subgenres of Cyberpunk? I saw one other post that spoke about this from 3 years back but didn't seem to go beyond the AI-based cyberpunk or the Matrix for that matter. I'm very much interested in the various aesthetics of the cyberpunk subculture but was more curious about the one that's linked to neon lights, futuristic cities.

Nov 14, 2021 · Pondsmith's Cyberpunk, Cyberpunk 2077, and Cyberpunk Red, owe a lot to Gibson's high tech/low life motif. But a subgenre? No. I always saw the low life aspect of cyberpunk to be inherent to its appeal from the very beginning. Those media titles that ditch the low life part are fine, but they are the newer versions of cyberpunk.

Apr 8, 2020 · I recommend looking into my favourite cyberpunk sub-genre nowpunk, where in cyberpunk aesthetics, themes and motifs are crafted out of the real world we live in today (although can include some near future tech so long as they have stick to real world aesthetics like for example Watch Dogs, Orphan Black or Children of Men).

Cyberpunk in an extension of 80s+ computer technology in the exact same way Steampunk is an extension of 1800s steam tehnology.
