Sep 1, 2009 · As others have indicated, don't confuse the cable cutters for copper/aluminum with those intended to cut steel wire rope. In my youth, I tried to cut some bike cable with a pair of cable cutters similar to the Klein that BossHogg listed and ended up with a nice "U" shape indented in the blades and a nearly intact piece of cable.

Cutting EMT with conductors still inside - Fine Homebuilding
Aug 27, 2005 · While I don't think you need to protect the wires when cutting with a tubing cutter, it surely is easy to do just by sliding a 6-7 foot length of clear tubing over the wires and into the emt and securing the other end. 1/2" CPVC pipe is a nice tight fit into 1/2" emt and a 1/2" long piece could easily serve as your anti-short bushing.

Cut a groove along the meeting rail of the lower sash using a slot-cutting bit in a router. Insert the WS87, an offset plastic leaf seal, into the groove to eliminate the gap between the meeting rails. If the leaf seal catches on the sash locks when the sash is raised, carve out a half-round piece of the seal for clearance.
FInd Cable Saw that Cuts Metal? - Fine Homebuilding
Sep 26, 2005 · Might try lowering a powerful magnet on a rope--that way the thing won't get away from you and fall, possibly damaging something. GregDi | Sep 26, 2005 11:39pm | #4 If you can figure out what's holding it in, I would just drill out the one or two bricks, pull the bar and mortar the bricks back in.
cutting wire re-inforced glass - Fine Homebuilding
Nov 7, 2004 · I’m building some coldframes and I’ve been offerred several very large sheets of 1/4″ wire re-inforced glass. My problem is that while I’ve cut lots of regular glass, I’ve never cut the wire glass and I don’t know if it’s basically the same, or is special equipment required. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian

Aug 6, 2007 · "The last LED rope lighting that I used I was able to cut it to length" Yeah, but as another poster mentioned, the code has changed and now field cutting is not permitted. Here's a link to a site that carries LEDs in all sorts of lenghts and configurations. I think they will cut to length, but I didn't check it in detail.
Cut Conduit With Wires Inside - Fine Homebuilding
Mar 6, 2024 · I usually cut PVC electrical conduit with a saw, but on one particular job, the conduit I was working on had wires running through it, and cutting with a saw was too risky. I considered using the plumber’s trick of “sawing” through the PVC with a braided mason’s twine, but there wasn’t room to pull the twine from various angles.
Removing tile and mortar/wire bed - Fine Homebuilding
Jul 26, 2005 · I know this should be listed in DE-construction techniques, but, what is the best way to remove bathroom floor tile set in a 1-1/2″ thick wire-reinforced mortar bed? (the mortar is 1-1/2″ thick, not the wire!) Wire is about chicken wire thickness. Assuming there is a better way than a BFH and prybars, sweat, and safety glasses. Thanks in ...
Rope Molding Outside Corner Miter Tips? - Fine Homebuilding
Apr 28, 2006 · I cut a couple of short samples and then try to get the best match out of the profile. Instead of cutting the inside corner first, I cut the outside 45, 22.5 or whatever first. Then I take the measure off the short point of the bevel to the stopping point. It's very touchy when you cut on a profile like a rope, 1/32" mistake looks like 1/8".
