May 23, 2018 · The American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) is a rare and endangered species of brackish estuaries in southern Florida, occurring more widely in central and northwestern South America and the Caribbean. This species can achieve a length of 20 ft (6 m). The Orinoco crocodile (C. intermedius) occurs in the Orinoco and Amazon Rivers of South America.

On the legs and the sides of the body, the scales are smaller. Belly scales, which may also contain osteoderms, are large and smooth. Crocodilian tails are usually about as long as or a bit longer than the body, and in some species, like the Nile crocodile, the tails have a tall ridge of scales down the center.

This is an unusual large climbing monitor lizard.
