I use this mix at different concentrations depending on what Im doing. More or less parraffin wax. Go to the grocery store and get blocks of canning wax. "JAX" or wax toilet rings.

Feb 5, 2024 · Use heat to liquify and clear off the bulk of the cosmoline. Step Two - Soak Use acetone or mineral spirits to dissolve the cosmoline. This will require a closed container as both solvents evaporate rapidly and will stink up the area. Use a plastic bristle brush periodically to break down the cosmoline and let the solvent penetrate deeper.

Aug 3, 2006 · Pull them out and while still hot wipe them down with rags to clean most of the remaining cosmoline off of them. Use your favorite degreaser and them lube with some breakfree CLP for storage. I tried this on 3 mags after cleaning 21 mags. The 3 were the worse ones I had with so much cosmoline on them I was tempted to throw 2 away.

Feb 28, 2013 · Unless you plan on cleaning a hundred of them I would just clean it in the laundry room sink. I've cleaned six at a time like that and hundreds if not a thousand bayonets. It may be a little time consuming but it is rather easy. The cosmoline comes off at about 160 to 180 degrees and really melts like butter at 212 degrees.

Feb 7, 2017 · Mineral spirits on cosmoline works great for the metal parts. As others have said.....know what you're doing with wood. I have a dedicated tupperware bowl with lid that I use for cosmo bath. I use a nylon toothbrush and also let things soak if needed. Lid is to keep the mineral spirits from evaporating. It doesn't matter odorless or not.

May 8, 2007 · Mineral spirits are the way to go. I have 20 SPG mags that had a ridiculous amount of caked and hardened cosmoline, and I started soaking half of them on Sunday. After only a day, most of the bad stuff has started to dissolve, and hopefully a couple more days they will be beautiful I imagine.

BUT, I wonder, were these ever re-arsenaled after vietnam? Why I ask is that it's not all matching, but everything on it is new> stock, bolt, receiver, barrel, gastube etc etc, everything is new.
