Anyone can be a member of these churches, yes, even Arabs and Nubians, who have their own ethnic identity. Ethnic Copts are their own ethnicity indigenous to Egypt.

Jun 10, 2024 · The distinction between Copts and say Egyptians of the Muslim faith is not solely distinguished on the basis of creed, but also ethnic affiliation. Egyptian Muslims being Arabs, and Coptic Christians being ethnic Copts. How does this work out, if non Copts convert to the Coptic church (This is just as much applicable to Assyrians, Syrians etc.)?

Jul 31, 2017 · Copts live everywhere in Egypt, but a large number mostly resides in Upper Egyptian Governorates such as Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena & Luxor. Along with other main Governorates like Cairo and Alexandria.

ADMIN MOD • King Zara Yaqob was a 15th century Ethiopian King who threatened to divert the Nile from Egypt due to Mamluk persecution of Copts. Feb 25, 2022 · So, in spite of the foreign admixtures modern Egyptians have absorbed, Egyptian Muslims and Copts are basically the same people. And before anyone calls Egyptian Muslims “fake pharaohs”, they are actually closer to Nekht-Ankh than Copts. But yeah, I just wanted to address this in plight of misinformation being spread in this sub.

Was listening to the latest episode of Locked On Colts and Stephen Holder (I know this sub doesn’t really like the guy, but even a broken clock is right twice a day) brought up what I thought was a great point.

I've heard of long bearded men 'ekhwan' discriminate against working with copts in the gulf, but the Ekhwan discriminate against anyone who disagrees with them be they Liberals, Shia Muslims, different political opinions, non divout Sunni's, Indians..

This seems to be true, or at least to be a mindset many Copts hold. Now I think we have a bit of a victimhood mentality in 2020. Everybody wants to be a victim, everybody wants to be oppressed. But it seems like we hear stories of Copts dying on a semi-regular basis. Also, yes, many are abandoning the country through emigration.
