The Convair CV-240 is an American airliner that Convair manufactured from 1947 to 1954, initially as a possible replacement for the ubiquitous Douglas DC-3.

Convair is best known for its military aircraft; it produced aircraft such as the Convair B-36 Peacemaker and Convair B-58 Hustler strategic bombers, and the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger and Convair F-106 Delta Dart interceptors.

The CV-440 Metropolitan was merely a refinement of the CV-340 featuring modifications to increase speed, reduce the noise level in the cabin, and provide for up to 52 passengers.
