Oct 13, 2019 · Conrail inherited their fleet of 20 U25C's from Penn Central, which inherited them from the Pennsylvania Railroad. Originally, Conrail had assigned these U25C's to series CR 6500-6519 but renumbered them in January 1979 into the CR 6800-6819 series, making way for the newly arriving order of SD40-2's that year.

The U25C is a diesel locomotive built by General Electric intended for the United States domestic market. Launched in September 1963, it remained in production until December 1965. It was replaced by the U28C.
