Mar 12, 2025 · EUGÈNE YSAŸE (LIÈGE, BELGIUM, JULY 16, 1858 — BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, MAY 12, 1931) was a Belgian violinist, conductor, and composer, the foremost interpreter of the string works of French and Belgian composers of his time. After a year as conductor of an orchestra in Berlin, Ysa e toured Norway, Russia, and France.

He managed to start his solo career on an excellent 1754 violin by G.B. Guadagnini, which he loved very much.

Eugène-Auguste Ysa e (French: [øʒɛn iza.i]; 16 July 1858 – 12 May 1931) was a Belgian virtuoso violinist, composer, and conductor. He was regarded as "The King of the Violin", or, as Nathan Milstein put it, the "tsar". Eugène Ysa e came from a background of "artisans", though a large part of his family played instruments.
