The Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®) credential is the recognized path for medical-surgical nurses to demonstrate their commitment, confidence, and credibility. MSNCB has launched the Certified Acute-care Virtual Registered Nurse (CAVRN) credential to provide a path for virtual nurses in acute care settings to do the same.

You must hold a CMSRN certification that expires within one year. License. You must hold an unencumbered and current license as an RN in the United States, its territories, or Canada. International nurses also eligible.

Once you complete eligibility requirements to take the certification examination and successfully pass the exam, you are awarded the credential: Medical Surgical Nurse – Board Certified (MEDSURG-BC™). This credential is valid for 5 years.
