En 2022, un projet de recherche-action a été confiée par l’Agence nationale de la cohésion des territoires (ANCT) à l’institut de recherche en design Civic city. Cette recherche visait à mieux comprendre les méthodologies et les potentiels propres au design dans le contexte des espaces urbains dits fragilisés.

Does design just want to be part of the commercial colonisation of social spaces? Or is it capable of building a civic city on the ideological ruins of existing urban spaces? The eight essays collected here call for the formation of a ‘civic city’ as an alternative to the neoliberal paradigm of urban development.

In this prospect, Civic city decide to focus on the "public space", like a new type of proximity common area, during the 2017-18 year. The new socials roles of these spaces, their symbolic sizes in politics fight, become more and more obvious.

Following on from ‘Place en relation’ and ‘Inscription en relation’, Civic city is launching an action-research project for the years 2024-26 to raise awareness of healthier, greener and more affordable food inspired by the customs and cultures of the world.
