Feb 3, 2023 · Most cities have ugly flags. At least that’s the consensus of a recent flag design survey. Of 312 city flags reviewed, more than 60% received a D or F, and just 30% an A or B. The average grade in the North American Vexillological Association’s 2022 city flag survey: a D+.

In late 2022, NAVA asked its members and the public to rate the designs of 312 known flags (there are likely many more). From September 1 to November 30, 2,852 people participated in the online survey: 308 NAVA members and 2,544 public participants. They rated the design of each flag using a low-to-high scale of 0–10.
