The Citroën Dyane is an economy family car produced by the French automaker Citroën from 1967 to 1983. The Dyane's design remained almost completely based on the Citroën 2CV and its underpinnings, but at the same time received almost all-new body panels, distinguished by more straight, angular overall features.

The Citroen 2CV is, like the VW Beetle, Porsche 911, and Austin Mini, a car so perfect in its execution that it simply refused to die; despite Citroen’s attempts to modernize it over the years with the Dyane and Ami, the original design was so fit for purpose that tinkering was impossible.

The Citroën Dyane was a series of superminis introduced in 1967. The Dyane was offered as a five door hatchback, and over its production, was offered with 425 cc, 435 cc (Dyane 4), and 602 cc (Dyane 6) flat two engines.

The Dyane was technically based on the 2CV but with an entirely new body. It was positioned between the 2CV and the Ami 6 and had all advantages of a station wagon with its foldable rear seats and a hatchback.

When Renault introduced their small car the Renault 4 sales of Citroën’s 2CV fell and this spurred the creation of the Citroën Dyane. The Citroën Dyane is a hatchback vehicle and therefore offers versatility.

The Dyane epic Revamp the 2CV! Conserve its qualities but dress them in a finer robe and add more sophisticated equipment. This is the challenge taken up by Robert Opron and Jacques Charreton and which leads in autumn 1967 to the unveiling of the little Dyane with a more contemporary angular and affluent-looking profile than the 2CV.
