If you want a non-Chinese map app that works in China, I'd suggest some app based on the Open Street Map data. There are many, as far as I know. The one I use is from mapy.cz. It does not have the same level of coverage for businesses as Google Maps or Baidu Maps do, and the quality of data in some areas is spotty, but OTOH it has a pretty good ...

Map data in China must use the official GCJ-02 coordinate system with an intentional obfuscation offset. The offset is random (~50m - 500m in any direction) and the algorithm to correct for it is based on your location. Companies and apps (like baidu, wechat, ofo, etc) are or use licensed information to correct the offset.

If you use Apple Maps in China, all the map data you see is licensed under this same company (AutoNavi/Gaode). I believe it’s the most comprehensive English map in China.
