The Canadair CF-5 (officially designated the CF-116 Freedom Fighter) was the Canadair licensed-built version of the American Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter aircraft primarily for the Canadian Forces. The CF-5 was upgraded periodically throughout its service career in Canada.

The CF-FD is the dual-seat Canadian version of the F-5 modified to fit specific Canadian requirements. TacAir owns and operates a fleet of 26 supersonic F-5 fighter aircraft, largely consisting of an improved, lower flight-time version of the current Adversary platform of the U.S. Navy (USN) and Marine Corps (USMC).

In Canadian Forces service, the two-seater is designated CF-116D, with CF-5D being the name. The Canadair designation is CL-219-1A17, with construction numbers being 2001 through 2046. The CAF serials were 116801 through 116846 (with the first 26 initially being numbered RCAF 14801 through 14826).
