Number 2804 was built by Baldwin in 1906 (c/n 28281) as a class S-1, rebuilt in 1926 as a class S-1-A, and sold for scrap in March 1954.

Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, 4-6-2 represents the wheel arrangement of four leading wheels on two axles, six powered and coupled driving wheels on three axles and two trailing wheels on one axle.

Pride of its stable were the class O-5 Northerns (4-8-4 type). Most railroads with 4-8-4s considered them a dual-service locomotive, but the CB&Q used its 5600s mostly as heavy-duty, high-speed freight haulers.

Oct 16, 2024 · The latter featured the Burlington's only articulated designs, 2-6-6-2s listed as Class T-1, T-1A, and T-2, for heavy drag service. It also rostered a single 2-8-8-2, #4200, which worked hump service at the yard in Galesburg, Illinois.
