Catatumbo lightning (Spanish: Relámpago del Catatumbo) [1] is an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs over and around Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela, typically over a bog area formed where the Catatumbo River flows into the lake.

On 16 January 2025, National Liberation Army (ELN) militants launched several attacks against FARC dissidents in the Catatumbo region [b] of Colombia, as part of the Catatumbo campaign. At least 103 people have been killed in the attacks, with others injured, kidnapped, and displaced.
