Apr 17, 2007 · Whats better.... D8K OR D8H dozer575 is correct. If you are going to operate a D8H or a K on a steep slope, you best throw an extra five gallons of oil in the tranny. The reason is that the pickup tube for the transmission pump is located to the front of the housing.

Mar 4, 2010 · I'm having to buy an undercarriage. I believe that a Caterpillar branded U/C is the best, no matter..... then there's the rest of that stuff. But being that Cat doesn't offer an undercarriage for an older D8H, and only the Cat Classic line, which is not Cat at all, I think it's a repackaged I-Trac.

The amount of engineering changes in the D8H over that time period, would fill a couple of books. There are direct drive (manual transmission) D8H's and powershift transmission D8H's.

Sep 15, 2019 · I can get my hands on a older D8H for the price of scrap.( I don't know the age or where I can find the serial #) The cat appears in good shape but the story is that it lost oil pressure. The old girl has been sitting for 20+ years and never moved. The farmer that owned it had gotten a heart attack and never gotten around to fixing it.
