May 16, 2010 · I have had my wooden pine 2 x 12 car ramps for 15-20 years and they are still usable. The 3 inch angle iron (1/4 inch thick) is hard to cut, but once done, is a permanent (and solid) way to stop a vehicle from driving off the end of the ramp. It is nice to see others making these ramps. Impressive design and good ideas. Thanks for sharing.

Aug 6, 2015 · More recently, I solved the problem by giving the ramps away and having my independent shop change the oil. The 2011 Sienna has a low air dam that would hit the ramps. Our 2003’4Runner has enough ground clearance that I could reach the drain plug without putting the car on the ramps, and the oil filter is on top the engine.

Aug 7, 2016 · I have some steel ramps with a steep angle that's hard to get the car up them without the ramps sliding across the floor. At one point I had a manual car which I put on the ramps, set the parking brake and got out to chock the wheels and as I was leaning down to do so, it rolled off the ramps. It didn't hit anything, but I've never used them again.

I have some old ramps I've used for years for oil changes and have to put a 1" thick piece of board at the ends to be able to clear the front air dam. I've been looking at a pair of Race Ramps, but they are pricey. Does anyone have a pair of...

Mar 4, 2024 · The 2 piece Race Ramps work well for stuff like oil changes they give enough height for that. When I did the supercharger installation I needed more height for pinning the crank. So I got extra height by using 2 staggered lengths of 2 x 12 under each ramp, that gave an additional 3" plus the ramp height off the ground.
What type of wood is strong enough for a car ramp?
Jul 5, 2018 · my dad made good ramps out of 2x4 plywood but he was very good at carpentry; they lasted 40 years and are still in use; however, I agree with the other posters; just buy some ramps from an online auto store or, since you’re obviously very thrifty, wait for a sale at Harbor Freight on their metal ramps; Harbor freight plastic composite ramps ...

Jul 9, 2015 · Block the tires that are on the ground so the car cannot roll. Second, if you have ramps that move on you, you can try rubber mats under them or attach a piece of rubber mat to the front of them, just before the ramp. Your car pulls onto the rubber first. Ramps cannot move, with the weight of your car on the mats that are attached to the ramps.

Mar 11, 2017 · Molded polymer ramps support all the weight using compression on the support structure. Metal ramps have been known to collapse. In my vehicle the drain plug is toward the rear of the pan, so it actually drains a bit more completely. My ramps, almost just like the ones pictured, make the reading on the dipstick about 1/2 qt lower than it ...
