The Canon T50, introduced in March 1983 and discontinued in December 1989, was the first in Canon's new T series of 35mm single-lens reflex cameras compatible with Canon's FD lens mount. SLR sales were falling in 1983 from the market's 1981 peak, and Canon chose to try greater automation to revive sales and remain competitive.

May 5, 2014 · Couple the T50 with Canon’s rather wonderful FD 35-105mm F/3.5 and you’ve got a completely capable manual focus zoom camera. For standard lens sizes the 50mm F/1.8 is perfection , producing extremely sharp images and great bokeh (when the T50 allows it).

Amid such market conditions, the Canon T50 was introduced as a wave-of-the-future 35mm SLR camera. It was the first T-series camera. The camera was designed to respond to the user automatically.

Oct 16, 2023 · The T50’s viewfinder is bright and clear, with just a single green LED showing P. The lens is nicely damped, which makes focussing very simple. The Canon’s automation left me free to simply compose, focus and shoot.

Mar 7, 2011 · The manual focus Canon T50 is most likely the simplest camera in the FD arsenal. Program – Off – Battery Check are the only top controls. No “B” bulb, no PC flash input, no cable-release input.

The T50 was a camera anyone could take pictures with. And while full-program mode was available on the AE-1P, this camera featured ONLY a program mode and a much-reduced price. The camera offered automatic film-loading and advance but manual rewind.
