Apr 28, 2023 · Hi everyone, I've been doing some research recently on different de googled and linux OS to experiment with on a phone and I came across a lot of different sources saying that Calyx was overall the most secure OS but had some core problems one of which being a low amount of supported devices and a few other things about the Aurora store.

Security Updates: SHIFT6mq stock OS follows a different security update release schedule. The device is still supported by the manufacturer. The CalyxOS releases for it only contain the latest fixes to the open source components, such as the OS code and the Linux kernel.

Jun 2, 2023 · Calyx is more professional and, well, normal. Hopefully this will change with recent shakeups over at GrapheneOS, as it is a technically sound project. CalyxOS repeatedly made bad decisions in their OS.

Jul 30, 2021 · Calyx has better security, such as the firewall that allows you to control network access on an app-by-app basis. One annoyance with Calyx is that every single time I make a phone call it has a popup asking me if I want to use my mobile provider or Signal — even if Signal can't make that call. Can't find a way to turn this off.

Apr 4, 2021 · For example, I tried to replace GMaps with an alternative like OsmAnd but I just didn't like those other options. With Calyx I can say "ok, fine, I'll keep GMaps but I'll ditch the rest of Google." Someone else could decide to keep a different slice of google. To give another example, I use the Aurora store anonymously and I don't login to GMaps.

Oct 20, 2020 · What I got so far: Calyx has a smoother initial setup experience with nice apps and microG out of the box. Calyx has an integrated backup solution (similar to twrp?) as well as a built-in VPN. Calyx comes with a re-locked bootloader "out of the box" although this is probably just Pixel-related. Calyx pushes a bit harder for call encryption.

As such, sometimes we have to drop certain devices, especially when they've stopped receiving security updates given that we can only do so much.

Feb 5, 2022 · Calyx is great and I'm so happy it is finally available with Android 12. One of the most requested features is Android Auto support, which was missing for obvious reasons (Google app which needs to be installed in system partition). For sure it wasn't implemented so far.
