CONRAIL GP-9 Conrail inherited 446 GP-9s from virtually every railroad that went into Conrail. PC (PRR) - 254, PC (NYC) - 152, PC (NH) - 12, CUT - 4, EL (Erie) - 6, LV - 2. This class of engine was the largest single type Conrail started out with. These engines were numbered 7000-7483 and 7500-7559.

Conrail's fleet of nearly 600 GP9's came from Penn Central, Erie Lackawanna, and Lehigh Valley. They took series CR 7000-7559. By 1980, rebuilt GP10's will take the 75xx series. Penn Central was the only Conrail predecessor to own the cabless GP9B.
