The flag of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (or flag of the CPLP), also known as the Flag of the Lusophony, represents the intergovernmental organization for friendship among Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) nations where Portuguese is an official language.

The CPLP was founded in 1996, in Lisbon, by Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tomé and Príncipe, nearly two decades after the beginning of the decolonization of the Portuguese Empire.

CPLP was created in 1996 as a strictly political-diplomatic organization with the promotion of the Portuguese language as its only cultural goal. Founding members were all the lusophonous countries (Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tome e Príncipe) and East Timor as an observer.

The flag of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries features a white background with a blue emblem centered on it. The emblem consists of a stylized circular design with interconnected elements representing the member countries.

Jan 2, 2015 · Brazil held the rotating presidency of the CPLP from 2002 to 2004 and from 2016 to 2018. It was also the first member state to establish a permanent mission to the CPLP, in Lisbon, in July 2006, dedicated exclusively to the Community. The CPLP offers two categories of membership: Associate Observer and Consultative Observer.

The Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP - Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa) is the prime multilateral forum for forging stronger bonds of cooperation among its members.
