One of the great things about the CNJ was the plethora of paint schemes applied to its equipment by the mid-1970s. This GP9 was one of the last in the CNJ's second diesel-era livery (note the Jersey Central Lines logo and the small CNJ lettering under the number).

Conrail 5679 is former CNJ #1532, a GP9 built with GP7 parts from the first "CNJ 1532", which was one of the units to fall off the Newark Bay Bridge in 1958. It was intended for freight, but seemed to hang around the NEC doing local work, as well as assisting with Bayhead bound passenger trains.
