The SD70I is a version of the SD70 which has been fitted with a cab that is isolated from the frame of the locomotive with rubber gaskets (officially known as a "WhisperCab"). The isolation reduces noise and vibration from the prime mover.

CN was the only buyer of the SD70I model, 26 units all in one order, class GF-640a. Of course, the SD70 and SD70M models have proven to be more popular. I wouldn't be too surprised to see the SD75I's derated to 4000 hp.

An update from my previous thread on CN's upcoming SD70ACC program. They are actually rebuilding 5600-series SD70I units and not IC SD70's as originally predicted.
