
MLW M-636 - Wikipedia
The M-636 is a six-axle, 3,600 hp diesel locomotive marketed as part of the Montreal Locomotive Works six-axle "M-Line" series of locomotives. It was an evolution of the ALCo C636, and it saw many sales to Canadian, Mexican and Australian customers. Today, there are a handful M-636s left in revenue service.

CN 2301 (M636 built 1970). Built by Montreal Locomotive Works. At 3600 HP; a powerhouse freight diesel in its time, at 3000HP with 6 wheel trucks and 75mph gearing MLW units made a burbling sound when idle, a racket when running and smoked a lot.

CN M636 2238 that was kept as a Y2K power unit and had been stored at CN's Macmillan Yard for several years until it was sold last Spring. It took some time to be authorized for movement. History: CN M-636 2338 is a class MF-36b and was built in 1971 by Montreal locomotive Works.

Derek Henderson photographed brand new MLW-built CN M636 2335 and five decorated CN freight cars on display at Belleville, Ontario, during 6218's retirement party in 1971. The cars stayed painted this way until scrapped.
