Mar 18, 2020 · From those deliveries, the now-common face of the North American diesel arrived with wide-nose SD40-2W and GP38-2W models on the roster by 1974. A need for four-axle muscle to move important trains on CN’s eastern end prompted the arrival of the road’s GP40-2L.

A pair of GP40-2LWs (CN 9584 & CN 9524) and a pair of GP9s (CN 7062 & CN 7224) head east through Ville St-Pierre, Qc with a transfer. Sweet consist! Lighting not ideal though.

The GP40 and GP40-2, along with the non-turbocharged GP38 and GP38-2, were EMD’s most successful second-generation Geeps. As with earlier models they fit exactly what railroads were looking for while also featuring the manufacturers’ excellence in quality and reliability.

In 1973 Canadian National (CN) designed the safety cab, also known as the comfort cab, which featured a full-width nose that was intended to improve crew safety in the event of a collision. The first CN locomotives to feature this cab were GMDD GP38-2s and MLW M420s.

Nov 4, 2009 · The GP40-2W is a Canadian varient of the GP40-2 built by GMD in Ontario. 287 were built for CN and GO Transit, with most of CN's being GP40-2LW's with higher frames. CN has recently begun selling off many of their GP40-2LW's to shortline and regional railroads, while all of GO's have been sold off for some time.

IC 9614, CN 9402, & CN 9671 sit outside the Quality Rail Services facility in Madison, Illinois. CN local parallels Thilmany Rd. and the Fox River as it services the Expera Specialty Solutions paper mill via former C&NW rails at Kaukauna, WI on 2 Mar. '17.
